The Family Unit

(Gen. 4)

We have seen the first created human beings becoming parents and raisng young’uns. A little while in this thing called life we see one becoming a murder. One being murdered. One turning to God.

We live in a society today that has little regard for the honor and sanctity of marriage as God designed it. In an effort to undermine the sacred values in which this great nation was founded on; Satan has made an all-out attack on the family. It is evidenced in the number of divorces among Christian families, the number of those who feel cohabitation is alright under certain circumstances. It is evidenced in the way God’s people have failed to esteem the lofty position of marriage and family due to compromise.

So the question is this. Is marriage is still viable in modern society? The answer is yes. Marriage is still the best Idea because it is God’s Idea. He created it, designed it, established it and define it parameters. God established marriage as a permanent relationship, the union of two separate people – a man and woman -Into “one flesh”. God established it as the first and most foundational and fundamental building block of society. The Bible contains God’s principles and plan for achieving quality and health in family life. If we want to experience marriage the way it was designed to be, first of all we need a vital relationship with God and also we must take very seriously the Bible as it relates to the family.

I would like for us to take a fresh look at God’s design for the family, to reestablish a Godly standard and perspective to this divine institution we are allowed to be a part of. I would like for those of us who have faltered in keeping with the Holy-Standards of God design for family to be road blocks, steering others away from the traps we have succumbed to.

  • Where did the idea of family originate? In the very heart of God.
    • In the Garden, God Himself instituted and ordained marriage at the very beginning of human history.
      • The world has no authority over marriage or what it consist of.
      • God did not create marriage to be an Alice and Eve or an Adam and Steve event. He created woman for man and man for women, and I for one am glad of it.
    • The homosexual agenda has invaded our homes through what is promoted as entertainment, our schools though fear of law suits, even our minds through the new toleration movement.
      • The world has deemed it an alternative lifestyle, whereas the bible has declared it as any other sin; rebellion against a Holy Creator.
    • Since the plan didn’t sweep across the world the way they had hoped for, there are many who still stand for the truth and teach it to their children and grandchildren, they had to devise another component to their plot.
      •  Gender neutral.
    • The humanistic heterosexual movement of cohabitation has done just as much if not more damage.
      • Because it is not viewed in the same light as a homosexual couple it is more acceptable to many.
      •  Marriage is not a piece of paper or a ceremony. It is the creation submitting and surrendering to the ordain plan from the creator God.
      • Sadly, time and time again it has been proven that couples who live together have a higher rate of divorce, yet still they feel it wont happen to them.
    • The feminist movement (Gen 3:16) (that came out of women being tired of being treated like second class citizens) has had a devastating impact on the family.
      • Like any movement that separates itself from God’s truth it goes to far one way or another. A quick look around will reveal there are far less men today and way more substitutes.
    • According to Scripture marriage is ordained by God as an intimate and permanent partnership between a man and a woman in which the two become one in the whole of life.
      •  Marriage is the sacred and lifelong union of a man and a woman giving themselves to each other in love and trust.
      • Anything other is derived from vain, depraved imagination.
    • Next to salvation, Marriage is the most important affair in one’s life.
      • We can conclude from this account in Genesis that marriage is God’s idea, designed and instituted by the Creator.
    • Why did God create marriage?
    • (Ge 2:18) And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.
    • In these verses we also discover that at the heart of God’s design for marriage is companionship and intimacy.
      • To enjoy one another’s company. Doing things together.
    • So many start out separate.
      • Prenuptial agreements, bank accounts, lands…
        • I understand sometimes one can’t handle money and you need to set up some safe guards. Lands often are tied with other family, but if you can’t trust the gal or guy with what you have; children, money, things, you’re an idiot if you marry them.
      • This is the idea behind what God said( Ge 2:24) Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
        • It takes work, it takes sacrifice, it takes dying to self.
        • Satisfying marriage is all giving and no taking.
      • Marriage is a gift from our heavenly Father given so that husband and wife may enrich and encourage each other in every area of their life together
    • Marriage is for procreation, to continue the human race. But also God designed sexual expression to help married couples build intimacy and permanent bond.
      • Not just to raise children, but Godly children. God spoke specifically how we are to teach, train and be examples for our children.
        • Seems like a trend I see in many parents life is once their son or daughter say a prayer, get baptized their concerns begin to alter.
        • It becomes more important for them to have friends, be popular, have etiquette, be kool,  than to be disciplined spiritually, understand God is calling us to be Holy, which brings true lasting happiness
      • Here is a sobering statement. Why do our kids act like…
        • Their modeling what they see before them.
    • Another startling thing becoming very evident, parents are not parenting.
      • Because of this worlds pressure and demand placed on the family in most household, both parents work.
      • Young’uns are placed in day cares or others houses.
      • Then when time is given them instead of coaching, training, teaching, they just tell their kids to do a task and rarely check to see how or even if it gets done.
      • Parenting takes time and investment rather you work or not.
    • Marriage is the firmest foundation for building a family and then society and Nation.
      • Marriage mirrors God’s covenant relationship with His people.
        • God desires that we develop and nurture a personal, interactive relationship with Him.
    • Marriage Is A Platform To Practice The Same Qualities Or Characteristics Of Christ.
      • Remember, Marriage is the sacred and lifelong union of a man and a woman giving themselves to each other in love and trust.
      • Marriage is the full expression and design of God’s image in human beings.
      • Marriage is created out of divine order, is based on a covenant relationship, reflects our relationship with God and truly has a greater impact in our lives than many have assumed.
      • It signifies the mystery of the union between Christ and the Church.
  • The Main Purpose Of Marriage Is That Through Your Marriage You Become Transformed To The Image Of Jesus Christ.

I know there are many who have suffered divorce, broken relationships all this messed up world has to offer. We know according to God’s word He hates divorce. You know what He hates all sin and has made a remedy for it. Through the blood of Jesus you can find forgiveness and cleansing. You’re not second rate, not threw away.

In The Beginning. 2021

Genesis 1:1

Do you all like new starts? Clean slates, a refreshing?

Few people actually enjoy cleaning a place but most all feel good about a fresh smelling clean environment to live and work in.

It actually has a positive effect on relationships, productivity, and outlook.

As I have been looking to the New Year you cannot help but notice that God is really into beginnings.

Look  here in Genesis, He has the very beginning.  Have you given much thought to the next verse? Without form, void, darkness.

God created something spectacular, amazing, something that takes your breath away out of nothing!

As we look at those who surrendered their life to serve the One True God we see a pattern emerge.

We can look at Abram as God told him to leave where he was and start anew.

Jacob left and came back a different man.

What about Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah?

Along with their mentor Daniel, God moved them.

In a way none of us would have thought of being a God way. Slavery, fiery furnaces, really? But God had a supreme plan.

All of the disciples left what they had known and started fresh. Best I recall Paul was the only one who even used his trade again. Tent making.

God’s master plan is not necessarily we change occupations. Though for some this happens. But everyone who trusts in the finished work of the cross God says: 2Co 5:17, “Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.”

God has not revealed anything to us by accident. In His word He has given us all we need for us to live a life pleasing to Him in spite of what circumstances might be. As we open up the book of creation, Genesis, we begin to understand something right at the start.

  • In the beginning God!
    • That statement right there is comforting. God was in the beginning of all this chaos, all this emptiness and out of it brought a marvelous creation.
      • Look at the world around you. Even where we have caused havoc on this earth and filled our lust to serve the kingdom of thingdoms, we still see this world producing beauty.
      • What God started is continuing just as He planned.
    • We have begun a new chapter in this world. Our great grandparents would not recognize this world in which we live today and most likely wouldn’t appreciate it either.
      • As Christ predicted: Mt 24:12, “And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold.”
      • He is speaking here of the church. The body of believers.
      • It is very evident in the lives of many who call Him Lord, that other things are taking priority.
      • This is a true saying. Research history and you will find; as the church goes, so goes the nation.
    • What we see here in this first verse is the center point of scripture.
      •  It’s “Theo” (God) centric. Everything in Scripture begins and ends with God.
    • Why does Scripture emphasize this from the very beginning?
      •  Because God knows that what we focus on influences how we think. The Bible wants us to focus on God.
    • Remember Jesus’s words about treasure?
      • Mt 6:19-23, “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!”
    • What you focus on determines how you think, and the Bible wants us to begin by focusing, not on the things of this earth… but upon God.

Poem: He was just a little lad, and on the week’s first day, was wandering home from Sunday School, and dawdling on the way.

He scuffed his shoes into the grass; he found a caterpillar He found a fluffy milkweed pod, and blew out all the filler.

A bird’s nest in a tree o’er head so wisely placed and high was just another wonder caught by his eager eye.

A neighbor watched his zig zag course, and hailed him from the lawn Asked him where he’d been that day, and what was going on.

“Oh, I’ve been to Sunday School, (He carefully turned a sod, And found a snail beneath it); I’ve learned a lot about God”

“M’m’m, a very fine way,” the neighbor said, “for a boy to spend his time; If you’ll tell where God is I’ll give you a brand new dime.”

Quick as a flash his answer came! Nor were his accents faint – “I’ll give you a dollar mister, if you tell me where God ain’t.”

  • In the beginning GOD!
  • The way God created, revealed His supreme, un-matching authority. (V3)
    • And God said…
      • He simply spoke into existence.
    • I believe there is a two-fold reason God spoke into existence everything instead of just waved a hand.
      • He is placing a great emphasis on communicating.
      • God wants us to know He desires to communicate with us.
    • God chose to use His creation, man, to write, catalog what we needed to know about Him.
      • 2Pe 1:20-21, “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost.”
    • Also He reveals His absolute power and authority.
      • He instructs Moses to use a name that describes His transcendence. His power that goes beyond the limitations of this created world. Elohim.
      • This name describes the one who is all powerful, all mighty, amazing, unlike no other that all of creation owes its allegiance to.
    • In chapter 2In the creation of man God reveals another name, Yahweh or Jehovah.
      • The Lord God
      •  It does not describe an attribute of God but brings to light a plan.
      • Yahweh or Jehovah is personal and intimate.
    • Because He is Elohim, God who owns and rules everything, all allegiance and worship is due Him, but because he is Jehovah, God full of mercy and compassion we should want to give Him our best, our all.
    • Give Him praise.
  • We trust what has authority over our life.
    • Many like to say they believe God’s word is true but yet their decisions and lifestyle prove otherwise.
    •  In order to justify our lifestyles and concepts we often adopt inconsistent views of God’s Word.
      • The pro-homosexual’s re-create a “Christ” that has no problem with gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered sexuality.
      • The pro-abortionists re-create a “Christ” supportive of a woman’s “right” to abort her unborn child.
      • The feminists call on people to worship the “Christ-Sophia,” and re-creates God as “Mother.”
      • The inclusivist / universalist re-creates a “Christ” committed to the salvation of the unrepentant and the unbelieving.
      • And the Sunday christain re-creates a watered down sappy version of Christ- that doesn’t require faithfulness and devotion and accepts whatever we throw His way.
      • Some would have us believe the Bible contains God’s Holy Word.
      •  But the entire Bible is God’s Holy Word2 Timothy 3:16, “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:”
    • As we see, the problem is many seek to fashion the Bible to meet their liking.
      •  The standard of what is acceptable in religion for many is whether it satisfies the individual.
      •  Many “shop” for a religion that meets their personal preferences, treating the Scriptures as a salad bar – picking things they like and passing over the others.
      • This is most dangerous for God’s people in that it seeks to make everything subjective and relative with no absolutes.
    • We need to realize that the Bible is “truth, without any mixture of error, for its matter. All Scripture is totally true and trustworthy.”
      • (Pr 30:5) Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him
    •  The criterion by which the Bible is to be interpreted is Jesus Christ.
      •  Christ never acted contrary to His Word.
  • Beginnings have to have a start.
    • In creation, it was when God spoke. In Abrams life it was the moment he obeyed, in every one of those we looked at it all started when they really chose God over self.
      • The reason God demonstrates His authority, shows His desire to communicate is for us to respond.
      • All of us have responded in one way or another, either by accepting and trusting or refusing.
    • We have to decide rather we believe that God had enough sense to say what He meant and meant what He has said. Because our authority is His written word.
      • If our actions cannot be confirmed by the word of God, then we are wrong.
      • If we learn that we are wrong, we must change.
      • If we feel or think that something is good, that is not good enough. We must be able to go to a scriptural reference to determine the accuracy of our actions.
    • When we live contrary to God’s word we are showing who has authority over us and our decisions.
    • If you are really wanting to make a change, really want to see what God has to offer, it is the easiest and the hardest thing you will ever do.
      • It is simply yielding to His authority over your life by trusting His word, that it is what will satisfy you.
      •  The hard part is deep down though God is the one who created awesomeness out of nothingness we think He needs our assistance to run things now.
    • Don’t get me wrong, it is going to hurt, it is going to take time, but God will see you through.
      • Few of us enjoy the cleaning, the work involved in making a place nice and neat, but most enjoy the way it makes them feel, especially when others take notice.
  • In the beginning God.
    • He is not expecting you to do it on your own. He is the one who creates awesomeness out of nothing. So if you have nothing to offer you’re in the right place.
